Review: John Frieda Precision Foam Colour
By nlaile
A Little Backstory.
A while back, I was trolling on Facebook, as I sometimes happen to do, and I came across someone who posted a link about John Frieda Salon Company giving out coupons to try their new Precision Foam Colour hair color line. As an avid fan of choices and changing my hair style every so often, I knew I had to sign up. It was simple - click LIKE to see the page, and then submit your name, address, the basic stuff, and within 6-8 weeks a coupon for a completely FREE bottle of hair color was all mine.
I squealed with joy upon receiving the coupon, but I had no intention of using it just yet. I was still a couple months in to my favorite color (a burgundy color produced by Clairol) and had no need to damage my hair that much just yet. The coupon was good, as I read, until September, and I wouldn't be due for another change until maybe late July, early August, so I figured I'd hold on to it.
However, I did notice that there was a price limit on the coupon - it was good for the bottle up to $12.99! As high as the coupon was, I was concerned about how much it would be regularly. I don't quite know what possessed me, but I used the coupon about three weeks ago to this day. I must have been extremely lucky that day, because Kroger, my local supermarket chain, had the dye on sale for $11.99 with their shopper card! (TECHNICALLY, KROGER, I WANT MY $1 BACK!)
The box has been lying around my house for some time now, but I hadn't found the need to use it until tonight. With a couple of family gatherings coming up, I wanted to look good. Hell, I've lost nearly 50 pounds now, and I deserve some sort of reward for all that hard work (- my journey of weight loss, however, is far from over.. but treats every now and then are nice, and this one doesn't sabotage my new eating habits!).
The Actual Review Part
So, I opened the box and thoroughly read the instructions. After all, foam color is something entirely new to me. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right. I've since applied the color (am waiting to rinse now as I write this), and I wanted to write down a few things I've noticed, just in case anyone else is weary of trying it out.
- The color of my hair started to change INSTANTLY as I applied the first swipe of the foam down my natural part, which the instruction guide says to do first of all. My hair is this orangey-medium brown kind of color (rather, medium brown with some large hints of copper), since the burgundy tends to run off quickly, and I picked a dark brown/black color, so I started to notice the hair change color immediately.
- The foam was thick, and it did hold up to the advertising shtick about no dripping - not once did it drip out of my hands, and I prefer the method of squeeze out the foam, rubbing it between both hands, and getting a good massage going (coloring my hair counts as a massage too! who knew?!).
- There was little of the smell that comes with liquid hair coloring kits. If someone were to walk in my house, I doubt they'd be able to tell that I was coloring my hair in my bathroom with the door wide open.
- The kit was actually very nicely organized and the bottles were nicely labeled.
- Also, the conditioner that comes with the kit (after you rinse out the excess color) is big enough for more than one use - they actually give you more so that you have it when you regularly shower to keep the color locked in (this is something I will have to test out later, though - see if it actually makes a difference).
All in all, I'm really liking this new foam coloring kit. I've got hair that falls a little below my shoulders, so I didn't use the entire coloring bottle. There was a lot more foam than I expected there to be, which I'm very pleasantly surprised with. If I had hair that falls down to about mid-back, I'm sure that just one kit would be able to cover all of that hair with little difficulty.
All that remains now is to wait and see how the rinse goes.
The Final Review.
With everything said and done now, I quite like it. The lack of lighting in my room makes it a little look a little darker than it actually is, but its a very nice shade of brown.
